LOS ANGELES PETROLEUM REFINING COMPANY REFINERY, NEWHALL
Color: Blue; Brown; Green; Red
A postcard of an oil refinery at Newhall (now Santa Clarita), California, 1960s. The image shows the brick structure with at least two extant wooden tanks and three chimney-like structures in an open area. On the reverse upper left is information on the structure, although this material is inaccurate in stating that the works were erected in 1876. They were actually built in 1873-74 by the Los Angeles Petroleum Refining Company, of which F. P. F. Temple was President. In 1876, they were purchased by the Star Oil Company, retooled and then moved, as described. As with typical cards there are spaces for the message, address, and stamp. The division between the message and address areas features the publisher's name and address. The postally unused card has light corner rubbing, a minor crease at the bottom right corner, a dent at the top edge near the center, light soiling on the back, light discoloration on the paper, and a small stain along the bottom right edge of the back and so is in good condition.Lexicon
