Description

LOS ANGELES PHILHARMONIC ORCHESTRA PROGRAM, DECEMBER 5-6, 1929 Color: Blue Los Angeles Philharmonic Orchestra program for 5-6 December 1929. The light blue cover has Art Deco-style lettering with the orchestra name at the top, the season years at the left with wave-like lines about and below, and the auditorium and performance dates at the bottom. On the back cover is an advertisement from a Los Angeles music store. On the inside front cover is a list of the orchestra's board of directors, advisory board, office address and phone, and names of the manager and his assistant. The first page lists the orchestra's founder and conductor and presents the program for the performances, including works by Humperdinck, Richard Strauss, Dvorak, and Casella. Next is a list of officiers, executive board members, and general members for the Women's Committee of the orchestra. Then there are the regional boards from San Diego, Santa Barbara, Santa Monica, and Riverside. Next are listings for loge and box holders for the Thursday evening, Friday afternoon, and Sunday concerts. A message about price reductions on tickets for the rest of the season from the manager, a photo of the conductor, program notes, and programs for other concerts in December make up the rest of the program. On the inside back cover is a list of the musicians in the orchestra. There are advertisements on many of the pages and the centerfold lists Los Angeles County cultural institutions, including for art, flora and parks, religion, music, literature drama, and schools and observatories. In fair condition, the back cover has extensive pest damage, the top right corner of the front is missing, there are small stains and tears on the cover, pin holes on the front cover, and some page yellowing.
