Color: Blue; Brown; Green; Orange; Red; White
A folder of postcards with views of the Los Angeles area, ca. 1929, published by the Western Publishing and Novelty Company of Los Angeles. The front cover is a colored photographic view taken from a building at the south end of Pershing Square and looking north. At the upper left are a bunch of oranges and the title "SCENIC FOLDER of / WONDERFUL / LOS ANGELES, / CALIFORNIA." Partially over this is the postmark from the city's Arcade Station with the date June 28, 1929. At the upper right corner residue from the stamps, which were removed, remains. At the bottom right is the address of the recipient. On the reverse are smaller details of some of the images contained within the folder. This portion opens with a folding flap having the return address lines on the inner side (this was not filled in.) On the inner side of the back cover is some general information about the city, its economy, population, agricultural and industrial products, climate and other items. Images include Hollenbeck Park in Boyle Heights; the City Hall; the Coliseum; Exposition Park and County Museum; Lincoln, Echo, Westlake, Elysian, and Lafayette parks; Pershing Square; Hall of Justice and County Courthouse; the Library; the Biltmore and Ambassador hotels; and others totaling eighteen images. While the images are in good shape with little damage and wear, the cover has abrasions, creases, dents, soiling, small stains, and small tears, so the overall condition is fair.Lexicon
