"Los Angeles: The Magic City", compiled by the Research Department of the Los Angeles Chamber of Commerce and published by the Chamber, April 1929. The cover is a photograph of the view of Los Angeles from Mt. Lowe with the title, in white letters, at the top, a caption identifying the photograph in a box at lower right and the name of the research department at lower left. A daytime aerial view of the city is on the back cover. The 40-page pamphlet largely provides statistics on the growth of the city from 1920 to 1928, though there is also a brief historical survey at the beginning. Accompanying the statistics are graphs and charts in such areas as population; bank clearings; building permits; postal receipts; value of manufactures and general commerce; agricultural values; barrels of oil produced; assessed property valuations; stock exchange transactions; school enrollment; automobile and truck registration; freight carload shipments; number of telephones installed; annual rainfall; and average temperatures. Notes about the region as an aviation center and on Los Angeles County are at the back with an index. In fair condition, the object has creases; fairly extensive cover wear and occasional stains and discoloration.
