"LOS ANGELES TIMES COOK BOOK, NUMBER THREE," 1908
Color: Green; Black
"Los Angeles Times Cook Book, Number Three," published by The Times-Mirror Company, 1908. The cover is green faux leather cloth, but there is a strip of black leather at the spine that was probably added later. The title of the book is at the top, the publisher's name and price is at the bottom and there is information about the contents at the center of the front cover. On the back is an advertisement for syrup. The 238-page book is filled with recipes, including some identified as "California," "Spanish," and "Mexican." All listings have the names and addresses of those who supplied the recipe, which in many cases are for more than one of the same dish. At the front is a short introduction and, on the last page, is a list of prize-winning recipes, divided into several categories. There are also a few advertisements at the back. With corner and edge rubbing, page brittleness, soiling on page edges, browning of pages, fading of cover lettering, folds of some page corners, losses to the title and last pages, some pencil and ink inscriptions throughout, pest damage to the flysheets, stains at the bottom left corner of the back cover, and tears to the cover fabric and a few page edges, the overall condition is fair.Lexicon
