Description

LOS ANGELES VETERANS ADMINISTRATION HOSPITAL, 1929. Color: Black; White The photograph shows the entrance of the Los Angeles Veterans Administration hospital. It was part of the Pacific Branch of the National Home for Disabled Volunteer Soldiers. The building itself features three stories, rows of arched and squared windows and a tall center tower. A well-manicured lawn with a two-bulb lamp post, shrubbery and palm trees and a curved paved path are seen at the foreground. A black wrought iron fence encircles the property between the sidewalk and lawn, leading toward two concrete pillars with light posts located at the entrance of the path leading to the building. To the left is a vehicle with a barely discernible word of "CANTEEN" on the side of it. The vehicle was used to transport workers, medical personnel or supplies. On the far right are two men seated on a bench looking toward the hospital, perhaps veterans themselves. The photo is in good condition despite the yellowing of the image and minor warping.
