Description

Color: Black; White "Los Angeles Weekly Express," Volume 1, Number 22, August 22, 1872. The newspaper has the words "WEEKLY EXPRESS" on the masthead, along with an image of a train. The city name and date are at the center just below and the volume is at left, and the issue number at right. The proprietor, Tiffany and Co., is listed in a box at the upper left with the note the paper was published on Thursdays. The first page consists of regional, state, and national news, including telegraphed dispatches. A few humorous tidbits are mixed-in with the news, as well. The first four columns of page two mainly deal with the upcoming state senate election, which included local candidate, E. J. C. Kewen, not the choice of this paper. More telegraphed news comprises the right two columns, as well as a marriage listing, and an ad for a sheriff's sale. Page three has mainly local news with a sprinkling of national items and financial and commercial items. Page four provides more local items, including real estate transactions and an account of a horse race, further financial news, a briefing on the doings of the Common (City) Council. In fair condition, the artifact has brittleness, some soiling, page darkening, a few small ears, and a piece of adhesive tape on the right side of page four.
