Description

Color: Black; White "Los Angeles Weekly Herald," Volume 2, Number 36, July 3, 1875. The periodical's name, volume and number, and day and date are on the masthead. The front page contains local, national, and international news, including something on the Los Angeles and Independence Railroad, of which F. P. F. Temple was treasurer. Page two contains more of the same, editorials and three columns of advertising. Page three has local and state news from daily editions on the past Saturday, Sunday, and Tuesday. Page four has editorials, local news, and national and world telegraphed news. Among local news is that F. P. F. Temple was elected treasurer of the Los Angeles Boring Company, which had an oil well in present Santa Clarita. Page five has more local news from daily issues of the past Wednesday through Friday, including a note that a marble slab was shipped to Charlotte Rowland "for the mausoleum of a late citizen of Puente," meaning John Rowland's grave at El Campo Santo Cemetery. There is also a reference to a con man cheating "a man named Workman, a big wine dealer down in Los Angeles" of money. Page six has more editorials, local news, and "Sunday Reading" items. Page Seven has telegraphed national and world news, advertisements, and a list of proposed state constitutional amendments, which continues through page eight, which has a few more advertisements. With brittleness, creases, soiling, discoloration, a center fold, foxing, a stamp and pencil identification of a previous owner on the front page, stains, and edge tears, the condition is fair.
