Description
"LOS ANGELOS [sic], CALIFORNIA [PLAZA FROM FORT MOORE HILL"
Color: Black; White
A stereoview of the Plaza area of Los Angeles taken from Fort Moore Hill, ca. 1875 and probably reissued under the "American Views" series in the 1880s. The image shows homes in the foreground along New High Street, gas tanks from the Los Angeles Gas Company on the west side of Main Street, the plaza and Pico House Hotel on the east side of Main and, in the distance the residential and farming areas east of downtown heading toward the Los Angeles River. At the bottom left of the right-side image is the caption "Los Angelos [sic], California." On both margins is the series name "American Views" in a font that looks to be from the 1880s era. With some corner and edge rubbing, acid burns on the edges, yellowing of the matte, light foxing on the back, scratches and some stains on the middle of the back, the overall condition is good.
