Description

Color: Black; White A black and white photograph of the Louvre Apartments building in Los Angeles, November 1919. The three-story structure, as seen from the corner of Trinity and E. Washington streets (now Jefferson and Olympic), has a fire escape at the left and several windows and balconies at the right. An arched entryway is at the far right on the ground floor, presumably the main entrance for the apartments, on the Washington Street side; this entrance is adjacent to a business located at the building's corner with large awning-covered windows. A woman stands near the business's front door. An automobile is parked along the curb at the left on Trinity Street. Along the left edge in black ink is "Our apartment." At the bottom left and center is "Trinity St. Louvre Apts." Along the right edge is "E. Washington St." Written on the back in green and black ink is "Our first home in Los Angeles / taken Nov 1919 / Louvre apartment [sic]." A white label at the bottom right reads "Near Freeway 10 / between Jefferson / + Olympic." Remnants of black paper, indicating that the image was once in an album, are on all the back corners. The artifact is in good condition with slight yellowing of the paper, some surface soiling, pencil markings on the back, and stains from a previous adhesive. Number-Units: 1
