Description

LUCKY BALDWIN'S OLD HOME AT THE RANCH NEAR LOS ANGELES Postcard: A color postcard titled "Lucky Baldwin's Old Home at the Ranch near Los Angeles." Shown is a one-story building with four-gabled roof, a porch with simple supporting columns and a two-riser stair. The porch appears to be extended to the right side of the home, as columns are seen at right. There are some dirt paths at the front and left side of the home. A profusion of landscaping, including large trees, bushes and shrubs, and flowers is seen throughout. The building depicted is the former Hugo Reid Adobe, the home of the owner of the Rancho Santa Anita until his death in 1852. Elias J. "Lucky" Baldwin purchased the ranch in 1875 and used the adobe as his quarters, while building the Queen Anne Cottage seen in 97.13.2. Later, the area around the adobe became the Los Angeles State and County Arboretum. The card, purchased from Inland Empire Postcards, is in good condition with discoloration and edge wear. Published by Souvenir Publishing Company. None
