Description

LUIS FATJO AND NELLIE DIDIER AT THE HOMESTEAD SWIMMING POOL Color: Black; White A black and white photograph of Luis Fatjo and Nellie Didier at the Homestead's swimming pool, ca. 1920s. The pair are at the center in the pool with Fatjo at the left. He has both hands on a pole which is behind him and smiles at the camera. Only the straps of the striped tank-top of his swim suit are completely visible. Didier is at the right and also has both hands on the pole. She smiles as she looks to the left and wears a swimming cap. Only the straps of her bathing suit are visible. Both of their legs are partly visible through the ripples of the water. Across the back of the pool and to the right are metal bars on a concrete walk. At the right of the foreground are two metal bars which flank the pool's stairs. Across the background is a row of trees. Partly hidden by the branches at the center is a tank. Stamped at the center of the back is, "ANDERSON / PHOTO SERVICE / EL MONTE, CALIF." At the bottom right corner is the number "5," and at the top is the word, "VELOX." The photograph was housed in Agnes Temple's album which is item 96.7.94.1 along with many other photographs which span 96.7.1.1-.93.1. Contact sheets 2000.159.1.1-.8 show the original positioning of the images within the album. With deep stains from water damage along the top, the artifact is in poor condition. Number-Units: 1
