Description

Postcard: A black and white postcard of Main Street, Puente, ca. 1926, showing the intersection of Main (at center) and Glendora streets (crossing the image.) Buildings seen include a drug store on one corner at left and the First National Bank at another corner at right. In the background up Main Street are a grocery store, "The Rose Bud" cafe, and a hardware store, all on the right. The left side is largely obscured by a large tree. Parked and moving cars are on Main as well. Also there are power poles and wires and part of a pepper tree at upper right. At the bottom is written in white, "Main St Puente Cal." The card was used, sent on 22 November 1926 to a Ruby Cross of Lyons, Kansas from an unknown sender, staying with D.C. Hartke, a Puente resident. It is in fair condition with discoloration, edge wear, and a few creases. Purchased from dealer Jim Reid. Written message from unidentified sender to Ruby Cross of Lyons, Kansas: "Arrived safely/like it fine sure pretty/weather, wish you were/here to enjoy it with me./Dwights are fine & the kiddies/are surely cute. How is/everybody. Till then Hello/for me & be sure & write/c/o D.C. Hartke Puente Calif."
