Description

"MAKING ADOBE BRICKS AT CASA VERDUGO, NEAR LOS ANGELES, CAL." Color: Brown; Green; Gray; Red A colored real photo postcard titled "Making Adobe Bricks at Casa Verdugo, / near Los Angeles, Cal." published by M. Rieder, Los Angeles, and postmarked December 12, 1908. The image shows the brick making area in the foreground where there are two men carrying a stretcher loaded with soil, there is soil and straw and two shovels, and there is a man standing in the pit. In the background right is the drying area with rows of bricks lying on the ground and a fourth worker at that location. To the background left are stacks of dried bricks piled perhaps eighteen high, although it does not appear to be for a wall. Adjacent to this stack is a portion of a railroad track. There are also white poles in two lines stretching from the drying area away to the horizon, where there appears to be open fields and a hill or mountain. The caption is at the bottom in red lettering. On the reverse is the divided back, the short title of the card, the name and address of the publisher, the identification number and note that the card was manufactured in Germany, a once-cent stamp, a cancellation stamp, a postmark, a message, and an address. With rubbing on the bottom edge, slight soiling, and scratches, the overall condition is good.
