Description

Color: Brown; Gold; Red A mandolin-guitar, ca. 1920s. The soundboard is flat with an ornate handle at the top right corner. The strings' pegs run from the top left, across, and down about halfway down the right side. To the right are the melody strings arranged in pairs. The bass and accompaniment strings are arranged in chords of four at the left. Over the latter strings are four keys identified from left to right as D, F, G, and C. A brown eagle on a shield of red and white stripes is painted on the soundboard near the latter chord keys. Around the eagle is a wreath of vines and berries. Ornate gold designs are also around the sound hole. The tonal-guide bar across the bottom is in gold paint bordered with green and red vines. The names of the manufacturer and distributor, as well as their location, are on the inside in gold print which is mostly faded. Also in the accession are a hammer which is item .2, a pick .3, a tuning key .4, instruction booklet .5, and instruction sheets .6. In good condition, the artifact has very small chips on the wood; light soiling; some fading of the gold paint and print; a price mark at the top right; small surface scratches; and some tarnish on the keys and pegs.
