Description

"MAP SHOWING THE ARTESIAN AREAS AND HYDROGRAPHIC CONTOURS IN THE VALLEY OF SOUTHERN CALIFORNIA" Color: Black; Brown; Gray; White "Map Showing the Artesian Areas and Hydrographic Contours in the Valley of Southern California," by the U. S. Geological Survey, 1904. The map shows an area from the Santa Monica area west to Palm Springs on the east and from the San Gabriel and San Bernardino mountains on the north to San Juan Capistrano and Temecula on the south. Such features as cities and towns, historic rancho names, rivers and lakes, mountain and hill ranges, and other physical indicators are given. But, the subject of the map are areas in shades of gray indicating original and current (as of 1904) artesian areas, as well as blue lines indicating "generalized hydrographic contours." There are also place names in large blue block letters indicating specific localized topographic maps of the Survey. Other than the original folds, creasing in the top left corner, and slight paper yellowing, the condition is good.
