Description

Color: Black; White; Yellow Sheet music for "Marie," written by Irving Berlin and published by Berlin's publishing company, 1928. The song, from the Vilma Banky film "The Awakening," produced by Samuel Goldwyn, is a moderate tempo piece with a tuning instruction for the ukulele or the banjulele banjo, though the arrangement was written for the piano. The cover has a yellow background, the title at the top in stylized black block letters, and the composer's name at the right below this. In a border of dashed black lines with flowers at the top and bottom right is the indication of the film the music was written for. At the center in a circular border of black and white lines is a photograph of Banky. Below the image is a bordered box like the one above with Samuel Goldwyn's production credit for the film. At the bottom is the publisher's name and address. At the bottom right is the ink inscription "J. H. S.," referring to an owner. The back cover is an advertisement with a sample for another song offered by Berlin's company. With cover abrasions at the spine, creases on both sides, a loss just to the lower right of the Banky photograph showing white; page soiling and darkening, and general wear, the artifact is in good condition.
