Description
Marking Hall, Federal Soldiers' Home, Sawtelle, Los Angeles, 12 February 1916. The image is taken from one side of a very large fountain in front of the Neoclassical style two-story structure, which was designed by J. Lee Burton and completed in 1906 as the library. On the reverse is much information in pencil including the note that that the home was on 637 acres on a 99-year lease from Senator John P. Jones and that there were 2600 men there with 800 on 90-day furlough. The building was named for former home manager, California governor and Representative Henry H. Markham. With some album tape on the reverse and light soiling, the overall condition is good.
