Description

MEMORANDUM OF ACCOUNT OF CHARLES P. TEMPLE, 5 JUNE 1894 Color: Black; Blue; White A financial record relating to accounts of Charles P. Temple, 5 June 1894. Written in ink on letterhead of the Hall of Court Columbus, Number 8318 of the Ancient Order of Foresters of America, the logo of which is at the left, the document contains two records. The first is payment from John H. Temple and Walter P. Temple, brothers of Charles, to Samuel Hellman, a Los Angeles merchant for a note. The other is the payment from John and Walter Temple, as well as John's wife Anita, to settle a note of Louis Linott, including the face value of the note, interest, attorney fees, filing fees for a lawsuit, and contable fees for serving papers in the action. This total is subtracted by an "amount due by J. H. Temple and wife" leaving a grand total "with interest from date until paid." On the reverse are two inscriptions, one with the date and "J. H. Temple et al" and the other reading "John H. Temple / Hellman note." All of the writing appears to be in John H. Temple's hand. With edge tears, particularly at the bottom and lower right edges, creases, many folds, page browning, and some stains, the document is in fair condition.
