Description

MEMORANDUM OF COSTS AND DISBURSEMENTS, TEMPLE VS. LEWIS, FEBRUARY 1907 Color: Black; Blue; White A copy of a "Memorandum of Costs and Disbursements" in the court case of Walter P. Temple vs. L. F. Lewis, Superior Court, Los Angeles County, California, 3 February 1906. Stapled onto a light blue court docket, the seven-page document appears to be a draft, because there are corrections made in several places. The substance of the complaint was that the defendant, about 3 October 1905 and two years pervious, Lewis razed three of the four sides of the brick enclosure wall to El Campo Santo Cemetery. The complaint calls for $1000 in damages to the walls and $5000 in pain and suffering to Temple and asks the court to enjoin the defendant from any further tresspass and damage to the Cemetery. On the inside of the back cover are preprinted spaces for the name of the complainant, his relationship to the case, his signature and the date. On one panel of the front is the form for the complaint and the name and address of attorney Johnstone Jones is printed on the bottom of this panel. At the top is written "copy." With rust stains from staples, creases, edge tears, especially on the cover, horizontal quarter folds, ink stains, surface soiling, and overall wear, the condition is fair.
