Description

An unmounted cabinet card of men and a horse-drawn vehicle next to the Los Angeles Vintage Company, ca. 1880s. The view shows four men, standing in front of an open gate and fence, while another man is at the reins of a vehicle drawn by two horses in front of the establishment. This structure is a one-story brick building with three open doors, a wooden sign atop the front and a brick addition with arched openings at the back. In 1881, the liquor and wine wholesale company, led by Michel Levy, formerly of Levy and Coblentz and M. Levy and Company, with Louis Lewin and Lesser Hershfeld, took over the Mathew Keller vineyard and winery established on the site at Alameda Street and Aliso Street in 1852. With a puncture, abrasions, small tears, a missing upper left corner, foxing, soiling and stains, as well as album paper residue on the reverse, and heavy fading, yellowing, the overall condition is poor.
