Description

Color: Green; Red; White "Merry Christmas Entertainments," edited by Joseph C. Sindelar (Chicago: Beckley-Cardy Company, 1917), 160 pp. A softcover book with an image in green and red on the front cover of Santa Claus at a worktable with toys, a wreath, tools, and a candle on or around the table. Above this is the title in red letters with the company name, city of business, and logo below. The work is a compendium of activities for children to participate in at Christmas and includes recitations and quotations; monologues and readings; dialogues, exercises, and plays; fancy drills and marches; motion songs and acrostics; tableaux; pantomime songs and pantomimes; songs and music and Christmas games. There are a few dozen contributors to the work. Aside from some diagrams for activities and some musical scores at the back, there are no illustrations. The artifact is in good condition with a tear on the top of the spine and light surface soiling and some creases on the cover.
