METAL LID PIECE FROM A CASKET

Entry/Object ID

98.20.6.2

Description

A metal piece, possibly from the top cover of a coffin, ca. 1870. unearthed when the crypt for Nellie D. Temple was dug in April 1998. The piece appears to be a edge section where it is curved with a flat projection. The flat section appears to be the cover section of the lid. There is a significant amount of encrustation of dirt and other organic materials, as well as major rusting and pitting, so the object is in poor condition.
