METAL VIEWING PLATE LID PIECE FROM CASKET

Entry/Object ID

98.20.5.2

Description

A piece of a metal lid, believed to be a cover for the glass viewing plate of a coffin, ca. 1870, unearthed during the digging of the crypt for Nellie D. Temple, April 1998. The piece is from the corner, having a definite angle, edge and it seems that this item and 5.3 fit together. There is some dirt or other organic material encrustation on the item that, also with pervasive rusting and pitting, is in poor condition.
