A photograph of the Metropole Hotel in Los Angeles, ca. 1900. The photographer stood on the opposite side and corner of the intersection to capture the two facing elevations of the hotel. The building is four stories with a full basement and corner projections with conical roofs and steeply pitched gables elsewhere. The name "METROPOLE" is on the side of the projection nearest the street. A woman stands in the middle of the street facing the photographer and may have positioned there for scale. There are people on bicycles and pedestrians near the hotel. To the far left are what appear to be houses and there is a light pole at the right on the intersection corner. On the back, left of center, is the number "86" while the number "0" or letter "O" is at the upper right corner. With some light soiling and creasing on the reverse, as well as the aforementioned material on the front, the item is in good condition.
