"Mexican Cookery for American Homes" (San Antonio: Gebhardt Chili Powder Co., 1923). 32 pp. A book of recipes that has a cover illustration of an oxen-drawn carreta moving through a desert-like environment with a blue sky. At the upper left, in brown letters, is the pamphlet title. Toward the right is a thin line with a geometric design in blue and green. Superimposed at the lower right over this line is an image of an American family at the dinner table. At the lower left is the company name and location. Recipes include a variety of "Mexican" dishes with suggested side dishes, interspersed with advertisements for such Gebhardt products as chili powder; deviled chili meat; tamales; chili con carne; beans; and spaghetti and chili. At the end is a brief description of the company's kitchens. At each recipe page are line drawings, associated with "mexican" lifestyles, while other illustrations are colored photographs. On the back cover is an advertisement for a "Original Mexican Dinner Package", showing the package box, list contents and, at the bottom, a farming scene. With a creased corner on the back cover and some light cover discoloration, the booklet is in good condition.
