"Mission and Plain of San Fernando," Plate VI of the Geology section, United States Pacific Railroad Explorations and Surveys, 1853, published in 1856. The view is taken from a knoll, evidently from the east looking toward the mission church and compound. In the foreground right, a man is using a tool to evidently remove needles from a cactus plant. Some bulls congregate nearby and a man on horseback is closer to the mission. In the distance stretches the San Fernando Valley. With significant foxing, a few stains and some creases, the condition is fair.
