MISSION PLAY AUTHOR JOHN S. MCGROARTY, HIS WIFE, AND AN ACTRESS
Color: Black; White
A reproduction photograph of Mission Play author John Steven McGroarty, his wife, and an actress, ca. 1927. The three are posed in what appears to be the Mission Playhouse, now the San Gabriel Civic Auditorium, which was completed in 1927. Mc Groarty, at center, has his arms around the others, and wears a dark-colored striped three-piece suit with a white shirt and dark solid tie. A watch chain is visible in his vest, as well. His wife, at left, holds what is likely a script for the play, and wears a dark-colored dress, with a floral-patterned lace collar and a dark-colored necklace. The actress wears a costume which appears to be a dark-colored shawl with dark fringe, a very large mantilla comb atop her head and a floral head ornament. She also has triangular shaped drop earrings. Only vague portions of the building, including a column are in the background. As a newly-created artifact, the photo is in mint condition.
