Color: Black; White
A black and white photograph of the construction of the south side of the Mission Walkway, 28 September 1924. Taken by Albert J. Kopec from the center of the walkway, before the sidewalk was laid, the image shows the unplastered area around the adobe columns, surounded by wood shims and then linked by beams of wood. The wall at the right is largely finished, with scoring marks for the finish plaster, though the clay tile tops need also to be done. Aside from the wood over the columns, none of the other elements of the arbor to support the grape vines is up yet, though some of the newly planted vines are visible, especially at the lower left corner. Construction debris, including some of the half-round adobes are on the ground where the sidewalks were to be laid. The southeastern entry arch is at center background with the wooden gates mounted. Behind the arch is the upper portion of the Water Tower. At the center reverse is an ink stamp: "Kopec / L.A." with a pencil inscription above this reading "Sept 28th." At the left, in ink, is a more recent inscription: "+29-115 / 25-144" with another recent pencil inscription at the upper right reading "108% / 2A / Terri." The lower left corner was torn off and repaired with pressure-sensitive tape; the right edge shows signs of cutting; and there are a few stains and surface soiling. The object is in good condition.
