Description

MISSION WALKWAY, EAST GATE, LOOKING EAST, CA. 1941-42 Color: Black; White A black and white photograph of the east gate of the Mission Walkway, looking east, ca. 1941 or 1942. Taken from the walkway near the La Casa Nueva living room, the gate, under an arched way is left of center. A few of the columns, part of the main arched wall and portions of tile topping the wall are visible, while grape vines grow on top of the trellis over the walkway. In the foreground are hedges leading from the living and dining rooms to the gate and other plantings are around the walkway. In the background through the gate is part of the greenhouse in the courtyard of the Workman House [this is before the courtyard wall was built there.] Above the top of the walkway are portions of cypress, palm and other trees in the near and far background. On the reverse lower right corner is the stamped number "42." With little indication of wear or dfamage, the artifact is in good condition. Number-Units: 1
