MISSION WALKWAY, WEST SIDE CONSTRUCTION, CA. 1924
Color: Black; White
A negative of the west side of the Mission Walkway under construction, ca. 1924, taken from an elevated position, perhaps atop the southern side wall of the Walkway. At left of center workers on scaffolds are working with arches atop the wall. A couple of men are on the ground near many stacks and piles of adobe brick. About two-thirds of the west side is visible, but the end of the west wing of La Casa Nueva is at right. The walls are unfinished, the window openings lack casements, and there are vent holes above the windows for the crawl space above the rooms. What may be the top of the wall the photographer stood on is at the left with bricks stacked nearby. What is now the south and west lawns around the house are barren dirt areas with construction debris and material at several places. At far left are evergreen trees skirting the road of the same name, and several power poles lead out to Turnbull Canyon Road. In the background are what are probably walnut trees on the ranch and , further in the horizon, adjoining properties. With darkening that seems to be non-intrusive at the top and bottom edges, the object's condition is good.
