Color: Black; White
A black and white reproduction photograph of the Montebello Hills oil fields, ca. 1920. This is a copy photo of an original snapshot with the backing for the copy work visible all around the original. The image is taken in the center of San Gabriel Blvd., a short distance east of the Basye Adobe, the home of the Temple family from 1912 to 1917. Three derricks, one at the left in the background on the hill; one at the center on the lower part of the hill; and a third higher up on the hill to the right are fully visible, while part of another is seen next to the Basye Adobe. San Gabriel Blvd. is at the extreme right, heading to the west. The oil well at center has some small white buildings around it. Along the south side of the road are some small palm trees, but little that is otherwise discernible. On the upper left of the reverse is a penciled inscription "Oil wells, c. 1920s, Montebello." The original appears to have had tape on it at one time, but this copy is in good condition with little indication of wear or damage.
