Description

Color: Black; White A black and white reproduction photograph of the Montebello Hills oil fields, ca. 1920. This is a copy photo of an original snapshot with the backing for the copy work visible all around the original. The image seems to be taken near where San Gabriel Blvd. and Rosemead Blvd. are located, looking west toward the hill. Three derricks, one at the right and two on the hill at left, a tank at center, and other elements of oil prospecting, including small white buildings are the main features. To the left is San Gabriel Blvd., while a power pole in the foreground left might indicate where Rosemead Blvd. is. On the upper left of the reverse is a penciled inscription "Oil wells, c. 1920s, Montebello." The original appears to have had tape on it at one time, but this copy is in good condition with little indication of wear or damage. Number-Units: 1
