Painting, Oil: An oil painting on canvas by James A. Merriam of a mountain and lake landscape. Housed in a gold-tinted wide-molded frame with a chain-like design around the inner border, the painting depicts a large mountain at the upper right, smaller mountains at upper left, a lake reflecting the larger mountain at center and lower right and a grove of trees at left and lower left. Primary colors used include blue, yellow, and white for the sky and clouds, dark blue and brown for the mountains, blue, brown and green for the lake and mountain reflection and brown, green and black for the trees and shoreline. The painting is in good condition with some cracking on the canvas, seen mainly on the reverse, though a couple of sections are seen at the front, especially at center and some minor wear on the frame. A label on the reverse inner frame reads in black ink, "1985-C6426", evidently an inventory number. At the bottom center on the reverse outer frame is a label with typed information on Merriam, listing three known Los Angeles addresses between 1925 and 1932 and bibliographic citations (LACD, CA & A, and Artists List, 1932.)Lexicon
