Description

Color: Black; Red; White; Yellow "National Geographic," Volume 128, Number 2 (August 1965), published by the National Geographic Society. The familiar cover has a yellow outer border with a floral inner border in white with three-petaled flowers and globes intermittently along the design. Within this is a black and white photograph of Winston Churchill flashing his trademark V-sign. Above this is the title, while below are a list of articles, mostly about Churchill, who passed away shortly before, as well as about the Amish and oceanographic studies. At the very top, in red ink, is a note of a plastic record with excerpts from Churchill's speeches and music played at his funeral. Below this, in banners, are the volume, number, and date of the issue. At the bottom is the subscription and copy price and the name of the publisher and place of buusiness. The articles on Churchill include a tribute by former President Dwight D. Eisenhower and two other writers and include many photographs of Churchill during his lifetime as well as of his funeral. Because Churchill's funereal railroad car was purchased and moved to the Industry Hills in the 1970s, it was hoped a photograph of the car would be in the magainze, but there is no image of it in the contents. Aside from some abrasions, scratches and surface soiling on the cover, the artifact is in overall good condition.
