"Nature Magazine," October 1928 issue (Vol. 12, No. 4), published by the American Nature Association. On the front cover is the title in large red letters, below which and to the right is the date, number and issue. Below this is the state seal with a brown grizzly bear and the words "California / Number" under the seal. A color drawing of the state encompasses most of the cover, showing the principal cities, scenic destinations and natural features, as well as symbols of economic producing areas, such as oil, agriculture and others. The 71-page journal is a special issue devoted to California and features articles on the natural features of the state, including animals; forests and trees; open spaces; state parks; museums and observatories by a variety of authors. Most of these articles are illustrated with black and white photographs, though there is a color drawing of birds for the first article. At the front and back are many advertisements, most related to flowers and other nature-related products, but others are for washing machines, skates, self-improvement books, and other sundry products. There is a tear at the top of the spine and some stains, surface soiling and discoloration on the cover and some pages, so the work is in fair condition.Lexicon
