Description

Color: Black and white A photographic negative of an engraving called "Rodeo" done by E. Wyttenbach, ca. 1860. The image shows three cowboys--one at lower left with sheep and the other two at right with cattle--rounding up their animals in front of what appears to be Mission San Gabriel. At background left, behind a picket fence and vines and trees, is a wood-shingled gabled building similar to the mission rectory and to the right of this, with bushes in front, is the distinctive bell-tower and buttressed walls of the mission church. At lower right foreground is some cactus under which is the artist's signature. The negative, purchased from the Art & Reproduction collection (item# 3948) of the California History Section, California State Library, is in mint condition. Number-Units: 1
