Description

NEGATIVE STRIP OF PHOTOS OF THE WILLIAM AND MARIA BOYLE WORKMAN FAMILY Color: Black; White A strip negative with six images of the William H. and Maria Boyle Workman family. Exposures 8-9 are of a studio portrait of Mrs. Workman, ca. 1887, and shows the subject in a head-and-shoulder view and facing slightly to the right. Exposures 10-12 are of a studio portrait of William H. Workman, also ca. 1887, when he was mayor of Los Angeles and shows Workman is a head-and-shoulder view with a little more view of his dark suit. Exposure 13 is a studio portrait of the three eldest Workman children, Boyle, Mary Julia, and Elizabeth, ca. 1875. Mary Julia, at left, rests her head on her hand and that arm's elbow is on a table. A simple drapery backdrop is behind the three children. Exposures 8 and 10 were printed and are items 1.4 and 1.12 from this accession. As a newly-made artifact, the strip is in mint condition.
