Description

NEGATIVE STRIP OF PHOTOS OF WILLIAM H. WORKMAN AND LOS ANGELES Color: Black; White A strip negative with six images of Boyle Heights related images. Exposures 20-21 show a group of men, some or all of them presumed to be agricultural laborers in a field in Boyle Heights. The field is assumed to be that of William H. Workman. Exposures 22-24 are of the first Los Angeles Cable Railway car making its way across the First Street bridge over the Los Angeles River to Boyle Heights. The car is festooned with decorations, is full of riders, and is surrounded by passersby on the bridge. Exposure 25 shows this same car arriving in Boyle Heights under a banner heralding the car's journey. Bystanders approach or stand near the car as it approaches the banner. Of note are the cartoons on the banner. Exposures 20, 22, and 25 were printed and are item numbers 1.19, 1.26, and 1.27 from this accession. As a newly-made artifact, the strip is in mint condition.
