Description

NEW SPRING PATTERNS OF WILSTEX SUPER MADRAS FABRIC SAMPLE BOOK Color: Black; White A sample book of woven cotton fabrics issued by John Wilson Textiles, New York, 1927. The book has a paper cover, on the front of which is a title of "New / Spring Patterns" under which is "of / Wilstex / Super Madras." Toward the bottom is "for /Delivery / March - April - May / - 1927 -." The company name and address is at the bottom right in a different font than the rest, which is in an Old English-style font, and there is a thin black line border around the edges. Inside are seven panels labeled "Style 160-52," "Style 3016," "Style 292," "Style 150-64," "Style 292," and "Style 3016," and "Style 6292." Each has three samples of fabric with associated pattern numbers, designs with stripes, geometric figures, and abstract figures and a variety of colors, tending toward shades of gray, brown, and blue. At the bottom of each panel are notes on the thickness of the fabric rolls, either 32 or 36 inches. There are several pencil inscriptions, including one at the upper front cover reading "3-14-7", one on the back reading "March 14th," leading to the supposition that the front should read "3-14-27" for 1927, and inside on each panel giving prices of 62 and 68 cents for each style sample. Although the samples are in good condition, the cover has many creases and surface stains and so the artifact is in fair overall condition.
