"New York Spectator," 14 August 1851. The newspaper includes a lengthy reprinting over two columns of material from the "Los Angeles Star" dealing with the aftermath of the Cahuilla Indian massacre near modern Redlands of bandits led by John "Red" Irving; the plans of 140 Mormons to establish a settlement in the general Los Angeles region and including contents of a letter written from Rancho Santa Ana del Chino from 4 June 1851; and material relating to "hostile" southern California Indians. With folds, many creases, edge tears, small areas of foxing and soiling, the overall condition is fair.Lexicon
