NEWS ARTICLE DRAFT FOR THE TEMPLE TIMES BY PERRY WORDEN, 1924
Color: Black; white
A five-page typewritten draft, with handwritten corrections, of a newspaper article written by Perry Worden for the Temple Times on the opening of the Pacific Electric Railway extension into the Town of Temple, 1924. The document was folded into fourths for mailing, presumably to Walter P. Temple as a copy. Worden began by giving credit to Walter Temple for his foresight in founding the town and negotiating for the railway extension. Connects Temple with his father, F.P.F. Temple, and his Los Angeles and Independence Railroad in the 1870s. The remainder of the article was an anecdote about a man who chartered a car on the fledgling Los Angeles and San Pedro Railroad, the first road in southern California, in 1869 to take him to the beach, so he could dig for oysters. From the collection of Thomas W. Temple II and donated by Ruth Ann Michaelis, the document is in fair condition with some creases, small tears, and discoloration.Lexicon
