Description

Newspaper clipping, "Beauty of Playhouse Entrances Audience." 6 March 1927. The article is a highly favorable review of the Mission Play in San Gabriel which lauds the production itself as well as the historical friars who attempted to evangelize the indigenous peoples of California. The author, Florence Lawrence, echoes the play's romanticization of the period by describing the friars as heroic figures. Lawrence goes on to summarize his thoughts on the Mission Playhouse and the performances involved in the production. The article features a black and white picture of Violet Schram dressed as her character in the play, Senora Josefa Yorba. There was a nonprofessional attempt to secure the object by adhering it to another piece of paper with tape. With minor tears, minor loss, brittleness, creases, moderate flaking, minor acid burns, and moderate discoloration, the object is in fair to poor condition overall.
