Description

NICOLAS BERRYESA STATEMENT ON THE DEATH OF ANTONIO CAMPBELL, 24 APRIL 1841 Color: Black; white A statement handwritten in ink by Nicolas Berryesa of the Rancho de las Milpitas in northern California, 24 April 1841, regarding the death of Antonio Campbell (a) with a transcription, translation and notes by Thomas W. Temple II, no date. The letter was folded in half horizontally and then into thirds vertically, presumably for mailing. It is in fair condition with the top left corner torn off, the top right corner folded over and some discoloration wear. The translation noted that Campbell had told Berryesa that he was a Catholic, this was information needed to determine where burial could take place. Temple's notes refer to the Mission Santa Clara burial register regarding Campbell's death at the Milpitas rancho. The object is from the Thomas W. Temple II collection and was donated by Ruth Ann Michaelis. The translation is in fair condition with many creases, soe discoloration, and marks from a paper clip at top left.
