A black and white stereoscopic photograph, "No. 204, Sierra Madre Villa, Los Angeles Co., Cal.," Alexander C. Varela, ca. 1878. The view is taken from just southeast of the hotel, perhaps several dozen yards away and shows the two-story hotel at the left, an adjacent one-story structure, and a larger two-story house closer to where Varela stood. In the foreground are some elements of the landscape, mainly bushes and shrubs and a man stands amidst these at the left. The resort was located in what is now the tract of that name in northeast Pasadena below the San Gabriel Mountains. With moderate fading, minor soiling and moderate abrasions, the overall condition is good.Lexicon
