2013.475.1.2Description
A black and white stereoscopic photograph, "No. 205, Sierra Madre Villa, Los Angeles Co., Cal.," Alexander C. Varela, ca. 1878. The view is taken from southwest of the hotel, perhaps a few hundred yards away and shows the two-story hotel at the left, an adjacent one-story structure, and a larger two-story house further to the right. In the foreground are some elements of the landscape, mainly bushes and shrubs and Varela stood on the drive approaching the facility. The resort was located in what is now the tract of that name in northeast Pasadena below the San Gabriel Mountains. With minor fading, soiling and moderate abrasions, the overall condition is good.Lexicon
