NOMA CHRISTMAS LIGHT STRINGEntry/Object ID
2000.8.2.1Description
Color: Brown; Red
A string of Noma electric Christmas lights, 1927. The fabric string is a dark brown and there are seven bakelite sockets along the length of the fabric. Six red bulbs with metal bases rested in spaces cut into the cardboard supports in the box, which is item 1.1. One of the bulbs was broken, however, upon receipt and the bulb remnants and glass pieces have been removed. The seventh bulb is completely missing. On the ends are the plugs, possibly of bakelite, one of which appears to screw into a wall socket, rather than inserted into it with the prongs of conventional plugs, while the other has receptacles for prongs. Because the string is coiled in the box and is fragile, it has not been removed for a closer examination. The material on the string, however, is badly damaged with cracks and losses, while some of the red paint on the bulbs has been scratched off and abraded, so the artifact is in poor condition.Lexicon
