Description

NORTH END, ORIGINAL WEST WALL, EL CAMPO SANTO, BEFORE RESTORATION Color: Brown; Green A color polaroid photograph of the north end of the original west wall of El Campo Santo before restoration, ca. April 1977. Taken from the west, the view shows the wall from the center to the left edge in evident need of repointing and, in some cases, replacement of brick. The large entrance pillar just right of center has two of the hinge bases for the gates, which are missing, and part of the other pillar is seen at extreme right. At the lower part of the image is the recently laid Pio Pico Memorial Walkway, but the dirt areas between the walkway and the wall have not been reworked and there is debris in the dirt. A hose is seen next to the center pillar leading into the cemetery. Some of the grass area and one of the ginkgo trees is seen through the entrance at right, while, in the background left, is a tree at the corner of the cemetery grounds. In the far background are container trees in the field to the north. An inscription in blue ink at the bottom of the artifact reads "West Wall - North End Before / Repairs." With little sign of wear or damage, the object is in good condition. Number-Units: 1
