Description

NORTH WINDOW DETAIL OF A MONK AND STUDENT, THOMAS' BEDROOM Color: Black; White A black and white photograph of a detail in the north window of Thomas' Bedroom in La Casa Nueva showing a monk and a young student, ca. 1980. The image is within a semi-oval shaped panel with a dual border of leading, between which are thin sections of glass. The monk figure may be Ignatius of Loyola, founder of the Jesuit order. He wears a long garment, with a rope dangling from the waist to the knee at the front, has his head shaved in a cowl, and holds a scroll in his left hand, while his right hand holds something cylindrical--both are at his chest. The boy sits on a bench with an opened manuscript on his lap, looking up at the monk. He wears knee-length trousers and a long-sleeved tunic. Around the panel are rough horizontal and vertical leading lines forming borders for square panes of glass. At left and right are two vertical pieces of wood frame. With little indication of wear or damage, the artifact is in good condition. Number-Units: 1
