Description

Color: Brown; Gold "Occidental Sketches" by Benjamin C. Truman (San Francisco: San Frnacisco News Company, Publishers,) 1881. The hardcover book has brown cloth boards with the title and author's last name in a stylized design at the center of the front and the title on the spine in gold lettering. The work consists of twelve "sketches" related to western American subjects, mainly in California, but also concerning on Nevada, Alaska, Idaho, and Arizona. Sketch eleven concerns the capture of bandit Tiburcio Vasquez and his jailhouse interview with Truman, then the publisher of the Los Angeles Star newspaper in the spring of 1874. With cover edge and spine rubbing, tape on the front hinge, spine brittleness, light creases on some page corners, slight denting of the corners, some cover surface soiling, page browning, fading of cover and spine lettering, flaking of the cloth on the spine, losses on some page edges and at the spine area, fingerprint stains on pages and some light ones on the back cover, and tears to the cover fabric, the condition is fair.
